A leftover stump is a tripping hazard, a mower-killer, a home for pests, and a magnet for new sprouts. We grind stumps several inches below grade so you can put the space back to work, whether that is new grass, a garden bed, or a fresh planting.

Professional, respectful of my property, and very personable. They did excellent work trimming my large fir that was overgrowing my fence line, and even gave me helpful tips on how to care for it going forward.

How We Do It

Below the surface, not just level with it

Cutting a stump flush only hides the problem. The root flare and surface roots are still there, ready to sprout suckers and get in the way of anything you try to plant or build. We grind down well below grade so the stump is gone, not just trimmed.

Our grinders chew the stump and major surface roots into mulch, which we can leave on site for you to use or rake back into the hole. The depth we go depends on what you want to do with the spot afterward, and we will ask before we start.

Stump grinding pairs naturally with a removal, but we are glad to come grind stumps from a tree someone else took down, or an old one that has been bugging you for years. Tight side-yard gates and slopes are usually no problem.

Why It Matters

Why grind the stump

Stops the regrowth

Grinding out the stump and root flare ends the suckering and sprouts that a flush-cut stump keeps sending up.

Reclaims the space

Turn a dead stump back into lawn, a planting bed, a patio, or just clear, usable ground.

Removes the hazards

No more tripping, no more wrecked mower blades, and one less home for carpenter ants and other pests.

Clean, mulched finish

The grindings make useful mulch. We can leave them for you or backfill the hole so the spot is ready to go.

Common Questions

Stump Grinding in Vancouver, WA: FAQ

How deep do you grind a stump?

Typically several inches below grade, and deeper if you plan to replant or build on the spot. Tell us what you want to do with the area and we will grind to suit.

What happens to the wood chips?

Grinding produces a pile of mulch. Many homeowners keep it for beds and paths. If you would rather not, we can rake it back into the hole or discuss haul-away.

Can you grind a stump in a hard-to-reach spot?

Usually, yes. Our equipment fits through standard gates and handles slopes and side yards. If access is genuinely too tight, we will tell you straight and talk through the options.

Do I have to remove the tree through you to get the stump ground?

Not at all. We grind stumps left behind by other companies and old stumps that have been around for years, as standalone jobs.
